In the 2016 academic year, Prof. PARK Yong Koo from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies was appointed to TUFS as a CAAS Unit member and participated in a conference with President Tateishi, Vice-President (for International Strategies), Dr. Miyazaki and Dean, Institute of Japan Studies, Dr. Hayatsu. Here at TUFS as part of the Program to Enhance the Functions of National Universities and advance international Japanese research, invitations for the ‘Consortium for Asian and African Studies (CAAS) Unit’ have begun. CAAS is comprised of seven world-leading higher education institutions for Asian and African studies, and by inviting prominent researchers in Japan Studies from this consortium, CAAS Unit provides new, productive research environment for domestic and foreign researchers.

From the new academic year we will also welcome new researchers to the CAAS Unit from Leiden University, University of London, SOAS and Columbia University. Through collaborative research among domestic and international researchers, CAAS Unit will continue building an international network for Japan Studies and consolidate its central role.
