Dr. Fernando Rodriguez and three students from the University of California, Irvine (UCI), a U.S. partner university, visited Japan from February 8 to 16, 2020 for the COIL inbound exchange program in conjunction with the COIL-type classes. On February 10, two Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) students also came to ICU, and students of three universities had a face-to-face discussion on education, culture, and technology. Those students had already interacted with each other in an online session of the COIL-type class and this opportunity deepened their discussions on the topic in person.

UCI students participated in classes taught by ICU professors, Prof. Insung Jung and Prof. Toshiaki Sasao, to learn more about education and technology. In the cultural exchange program, students learned and experienced Japanese culture of kimono and tea ceremony in Kawagoe, and toured the Edo-Tokyo Museum, and deepened their understanding of Japan.
