[Joint] On March 1, 2019, the Trans-Pacific COIL kick-off symposium “Toward the Cultivation of Diversified and Flexible Civic Concern to Promote the Public Good” was held.

On March 1, 2019, a kick-off symposium for this project was held in collaboration with the International Christian University at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. First, Prof. Minoru Iwasaki from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, who is the head of this project, and Prof. Rin Odawara introduced this project. As the keynote speeches, Prof. FabioRambelli from the University of California, Santa Barbara, gave a speech entitled “A History of Japanese Religion from Different Perspectives – In Search for New Perspectives, Unexplored Possibilities, and an Expansion to the World” and Prof. Katsuya Hirano from the University of California, Los Angeles, gave a speech entitled “Thought in the Global Age – Three Perspectives”. Additionally, Prof. Nobuo Haruna and Prof. Raj Lakhi Sen from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies shared their experiences of COILtype classes. The event was attended by around 50 participants and was a great success.
