Leiden University, 26-28 August, 2009
Postgraduate Workshop

Leiden 1.JPGThe first International Conference organized by the Consortium for Asian and African Studies (CAAS) was held at Leiden University, Leiden, the Netherlands, for three days from the 26th to the 28th of August, 2009. CAAS was proposed by TUFS and inaugurated in March 2007 with five higher educational institutions worldwide including TUFS to lead the research and educational activities of the Asian and African Studies at a world-class level.

The theme of the conference this year was "Religion, Identity and Conflict."
Nine senior researchers (Professors) from the CAAS member institutions (INALCO, Leiden University, NUS, SOAS and TUFS) participated in the two-day symposium. On the third day, the postgraduate workshop was held and professors made some academic advice on the presented research.

At the workshop, four TUFS postgraduate students who had studied at CAAS and other institutions made presentations on such topics as education for ethnic minorities in the UK, and Indonesian Muslim domestic workers in Hong Kong.

It was not only a precious opportunity for the participated young researchers to exchange research information with the world-class professors and peer young researchers in the fields but also a stimulating opportunity to carry out their research further.
This workshop was supported by JSPS International Training Program (ITP).
