This chapter examines the critical topic of human security in the field of peacebuilding by referring to the case of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The chapter starts with the problem of humanitarian aid for Rwandan refugees after the 1994 genocide that could be a hotbed of the following tragic war in DRC. There was a clear discrepancy between the need of humanitarian aid and that of peacebuilding. After carefully analyzing the history of the Civil War in DRC and the measures which the international community has taken for DRC, the chapter examines the merits and demerits of the ggradualist approachh of peacebuilding in DRC and stresses the importance of the comprehensive notion of human security.
