This Resarch Report disusses the problems involved in the use of weapons containing depleted uranium mainly by the United States. Explaining the nature of depleted uranium and previous uses of it in armed conflict and military exercises, the essay analyses how deplted uranium is said to have affected and feared to affect human bodies and the environment. The essay carefully looks at individual cases in which weapons containing depleted uranium are used. The essay then explores the issues in international humanitarian law concerning the use of weapons containing depleted uranium. It concludes that while the current body of international humanitarian law does not ban the use of weapons containing depleted uranium, the strict application of the law would restrict certain uses of such weapons.
