The rule of law is one of the important concepts or strategies of peace-building activities in contemporary international society. It is widely believed that without social institutions based on the principle of the rule of law, it is difficult maintain peace and stability in a post-conflict society. The idea of the rule of law distinct from positivism may be resorted to in the case of humanitarian intervention. However, some countries have expressed concerns since they find West-centric attitudes in such an emphasis upon the rule of law. It is vital to examine carefully international normative structures, especially international peace-building activities, based on the rule of law in the context of contemporary international society.
