Vacheron's previous Metiers d'Art collections have shown impressive craftwork (though some of the subjects are perhaps ill-advised) but this collection seems like such a natural step forward. Almost an inevitable one. Vacheron has taken recognizable works of antiquity and rendered them into something new, all done in partnership with a storied cultural institution. |
The watch takes a similar retro stance to its predecessors by using a Valjoux A05 H31 chronograph movement (an automatic caliber which Tissot has seen fit to exhibit via a see-through caseback) and maintaining the angular 1970s aesthetic complete with the bracelet that we have come to appreciate on the PRX over the last few years. |
Yellow gold. Black dial. Cartier. Tank. That's it, that's the watch. When we first got word this was coming, we knew it would get folks talking. Sure this isn't quite as accessible as the steel Musts when it comes to price, but it does something entirely different that's worth appreciating (aside from the watch itself). |

In search of answers, I spent some time scouring images of the movie’s premiere. I wanted to see if anyone on the red carpet had any of these watches on their wrist. Maybe LeBron would wear one! He did not. Instead, the king wore what appears to be a customized, colorfully gem-set gold Rolex Datejust with a pearlmaster-style bracelet. A baller choice, but not helpful to me, personally. |
With its rather sporty aesthetic based on the diving watches produced by Tudor in the 1950s, from which it retains certain codes such as the famous "snowflake" hand and geometric hour markers, the Black Bay collection is a real success story. |
In 1975, the Stern family presented Banbery with this unique yellow gold example of the storied ref. 3448 automatic perpetual calendar featuring a dial and mechanism modified to showcase the indication for the leap year in place of the customary moon phase. |
