About use of materials owned by the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa
Since April 2002, the book collection of the Research Institute for Languages
and Cultures of Asia and Africa has been available for use in the University
Library and the ILCAA Document Room.
Details of materials available in the two institutions are as follows:
(1) Books
- Books are arranged on the first floor of the University Library (Stack
Room Level 2).
- ※The Stack Room Level 2 also has the following collections:

Books related to Bahaism (バハーイ教関係図書), the C. Banerjee Collection (CBC), Burmese books (ビルマ語図書), Yamamoto-bunko (山本文庫), Kobayashi-bunko (小林文庫), the Oh-bunko (王文庫), Maejima-bunko (前嶋文庫), Asai-bunko (浅井文庫) -see About the collection of Asai-bunko (浅井文庫) , and minutes of sessions of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (トルコ大国民議会議事録), Census of India, 中国方志叢書
○These materials can be used on the same conditions as for those in the University Library.
○In terms of the maximum number of materials that can be borrowed at one time and the maximum length of time during which materials can be borrowed, the same conditions as for the University Library apply irrespective of the borrower’s affiliation.
- (2) Magazines, newspapers, rare books, some reference books, large books, microfilms, and other materials
- These materials are available in the ILCAA Document Room on the first
floor of the ILCAA Building.
- ※The ILCAA Document Room also has the following collections:

敦煌寶蔵, 明清档案, the complete corpus of Buddhist scriptures in Xizang (西蔵大蔵経),
the complete corpus of Buddhist scriptures newly compiled in the Taisho
period (大正新修大蔵経), Sata-pitaka, the Congo Collection (コンゴ・コレクション), official
gazettes of the Republic of Turkey (トルコ共和国官報), a collection of textbooks
(教科書コレクション), India-related pamphlets (インド関係のパンフレット), a collection of Bibles
(聖書コレクション), a collection of Middle and Near East histories (中近東歴史コレクション),
and a collection of accounts of expeditions to Africa (アフリカ探検記コレクション).
○University students and personnel are required to show a Campus Card when entering the Document Room.
○Other users can enter the Document Room by showing their identification card and completing a prescribed form. Entry is valid only on the day of application.
○Those who wish to use rare books must inquire at here in advance.

- ○Online catalogue
- Books can be searched using the
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the University Library.
Areal classified table | Classified Tables by subjects - Information on some books, however, is not available in the online catalogue. Card catalogues should also be used for exhaustive book searches.
- Materials whose location is indicated as “AA-Ken Collections” are in Stack Room Level 2, and those whose location is indicated as the “AA-Ken Document Room” are in the first floor of the ILCAA Building.
- ○The card catalogues for materials owned by ILCAA are available in Stack Room Level 1 for books and in the ILCAA Document Room on the first floor of the ILCAA Building for magazines.
- Books can be searched using the
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the University Library.
About the collection of Asai-bunko (浅井文庫)
In order to classify materials into certain categories and preserve them in good condition, the material in the Asai-bunko (浅井文庫) in TUFS is placed in the locations listed below.
(1) University Library (Stack Room Level 2)
(2) Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa Document Room (rare books room)
(3) Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa Information Resources Center
・When using the Asai-bunko (浅井文庫)
(1) At the University Library, the original of materials in the Asai-bunko (浅井文庫) can be used.
(2) When using materials placed in (2) above, users must inquire at here in advance because they are rare books.
(3) In principle, the original of materials housed in (3) above is not available for viewing and copying, but its filmed version can be viewed on the Internet. For details, visit the “N. Ogawa/E. Materials in (1) and (2) above can be searched using means specified in “Means of Book Search” above.
