Special Exhibition: "TUFS ROWING SINCE 1902"

Outline (Exhibition) “History of the in-school rowing competition TUFS Rowing since 1902” has begun.
The in-school rowing competition is one of the annual events here at TUFS. This event dates back to 1902 when the first competition was held at the Sumida River. Competitive races which take place even today between different languages and regions known as “Supremacy Races” have been held since 1924 giving rise to many well-known competitions.
At this exhibition we are conveying the historical transition of this annual event centering on the introduction of photos depicting the scene of what it was like at that time.

This year marks 150th anniversary of the birth of Eiji Asada, the recipient the first Ph.D. degree awarded by the University of Chicago in 1893. After he came back to Japan, he was devoted himself into English education at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. In era of globalization, this exhibition illustrates how Professor Asada had international views in the Meiji era
