TUFS Signs Bilateral Cooperation Agreement with Yamagata Prefecture

February 25, 2019

On Wednesday the 20th of February, TUFS signed a bilateral cooperation agreement for promotion of internationalization with the Yamagata Prefecture. The signing was held by the Yamagata Prefectural Government (Yamagata Prefecture, Yamagata City) and attended by Ms. YOSHIMURA Mieko (prefectural governor of Yamagata), Ms. TAKEDA Keiko (head of tourism, culture and sports) and Ms. NISHIZAWA Keiko (section chief of inbound tourism and international relations promotions). From TUFS, President TATEISHI Hirotaka, Dean YOSHIDA Yuriko (School of International and Area Studies), Vice Dean SHINOHARA Taku (School of International and Area Studies) and Chief KIMURA Harushige (Chief for Social Collaboration) were also in attendance.
TUFS signed a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement with four regions of Yamagata (Sagae City, Shirataka Town, Takahata Town and Iide Town) in May 2018, and went on to create and hold an intensive study tour course, “Inbound Promotion – A Study Tour for Community Building”, in the summer and winter quarters. In this course, participating TUFS undergraduate and international students stay in each municipality for eight days during which they experience the local industries, discover and discuss tourist attractions, and meet with the local people. In addition to this, students post about their experiences in multiple languages online through platforms such as blogs and Facebook to promote Yamagata around the world.
Through this new agreement, TUFS aims to further promote the development of global-minded human resources for regional revitalization through promoting inbound tourism to and exportation of local goods from Yamagata.
