January 30, 2019

On Saturday the 22nd of December, a “TUFS Cinema Indonesian Film Screening” was held at AGORA Global’s Prometheus Hall, in which the film “Emak Ingin Naik Haji “ (translation: Mother’s Pilgrimage) was shown for the first time in Japan. The subtitles for this film were translated by Lecturer Ai Takeshita (TUFS part-time lecturer).
This film is a story of despair, hope and disparity interwoven into the concept of a pilgrimage, and centers on a mother who dreams of going on a pilgrimage someday.
After the screening, Lecturer Takeshita gave commentary on the film and held a question and answer session.
This film attracted many people from both inside and outside of the university, all of whom attended to show their appreciation of the film. These attendees left many comments such as “I was able to really feel the Indonesian lifestyle and social values of Indonesian people through the world of Islam”, and “the commentary was really good as it explained the film, and in particular the doctrine and customs of Islam, in easy to understand terms”.
