Safety Drill Held for International Students

November 2, 2018

On Saturday the 6th of October, with the cooperation of the Tokyo Fire Department Fuchu Fire Station, TUFS held a safety drill for international students.

This safety drill is held twice a year (once in spring and once in fall) for students living in the International Residences. This time, notification drills, fire drills and AED drills were held, and an earthquake simulation vehicle was also brought along.

Over 100 students participated in this safety drill, a number largely made up of new international students who started at TUFS in the fall semester. These students learnt how to report an incident to 119, how to use fire extinguishers, and handle an AED. In the earthquake simulation vehicle, students were able to experience a 7 on the JMA seismic intensity scale, which was a very valuable experience for students from countries without earthquakes who are now living in earthquake-prone Japan.

Staff from TUFS aimed to improve the students’ awareness of disasters by handing out the Tokyo Fire Department’s multilingual pamphlets on disaster procedures, and stockpile food for emergencies.
