Cuban Ambassador to Japan and ESTI Director Visit TUFS

March 14, 2018

On Monday the 12th of March, Ambassador Mr. Otto Vaillant, Director of the Equipo de Servisios de Traductores e Interpretes (ESTI, the Translation and Interpreting Services Team), Ms. Dayana Pons, Assistant Director of ESTI, and H.E. Mr. Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Japan, visited TUFS from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During their visit, a meeting was held together with TUFS President Mr. Hirotaka Tateishi, Chief of the TUFS International Management office, Professor Sho Hagio, and Head of International Affairs of the President’s Task Force, specially-appointed professor Mr. Teruaki Nagasaki.

The main purpose of their visit was to check in on the two Cuban MEXT-sponsored exchange students at TUFS, who were sent to TUFS last April with the goal of nurturing more Japanese interpreting specialists, and to show their feelings of gratitude towards TUFS. This visit was Ambassador Vaillant’s second visit to TUFS since his last visit back in November 2015.

At the meeting, in light of the development of Japanese companies in Cuba and the resulting urgency of training diplomats proficient in Japanese, a degree of respect and interest was shown towards Japanese language education at TUFS, and further cooperation opportunities between Cuba and TUFS were discussed.

After the meeting, the visitors toured the International Residences, and conversed with the Cuban exchange students.
