TUFS has signed Student and Faculty Exchange Agreement with Havana University

On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, the signing on Student / Faculty Exchange Agreement between Havana University and TUFS was held in Havana, Cuba.

In the presence of His Excellency Mr. Masaru Watanabe, Ambassador of Japan to Cuba, the signing ceremony was solemnly held. From the University of Havana, President, Dr. Gustavo Cobreiro Suárez and Executive Director of International Relations, Ms. Ileana, Sorolla Fernández, and from TUFS, President, Prof. Hirotaka Tateishi participated in the ceremony.

Prior to the signing ceremony, commemorative lecture, "Japan-Cuba relations and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies" was provided by TUFS President, Prof. Tateishi. The lecture was given in Spanish and referred to the history of exchange between Japan and Cuba over 120 years since the start of immigration from Japan to Cuba. He also showed his own episodes on encounter with Cuba. At the end of the lecture, he has mentioned to the Top Global University Project that TUFS is currently promoting. We expect that the exchange between TUFS and the University of Havana could further develop multi-lingual globally minded students and staff and enhance Japan's presence.

The General Agreement for Academic Exchange and Cooperation was concluded, before Japanese Prime Minister Abe's visit to Cuba in September 2016, with the cooperation of both Embassy of Cuba in Japan and Embassy of Japan in Cuba. The signing on Student / Faculty Exchange Agreement between Havana University and TUFS was undertaken on the basis of this agreement. Exchanges of both students and faculty between the two universities would deepen mutual understanding and promote cooperative relations between Cuba and Japan.
