Central Asia Research Seminar Held on 23rd June

August 18, 2016

On the 23rd of June 2016 (Thu), the Central Asia Research Seminar (Sponsored by: Central Asia major at TUFS) was held here at TUFS.

This seminar was held following the Japan Foundation Symposium "Disclose and connect, the Cultural Heritage of Central Asia" (22nd June) where 2 people each from 5 countries of Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan), a total of 10 specialists and researchers participated. This seminar aimed to promote scientific exchange between them and younger Japanese researchers in the field of Central Asian history.

The seminar was such a success that there were not enough seats or itineraries for all the guests, among which were many Central Asian participants who gave positive comments about the seminar.
The Central Asia major was established in 2012 when TUFS underwent an undergraduate restructuring period. Since then, we have been steadily advancing towards finding a base for conducting Central Asian research and education in Japan. This seminar provided encouragement towards this goal.

TUFS and the Japan Foundation have concluded a comprehensive cooperation agreement regarding international exchange projects in February of this year and this seminar was as a small part of this cooperation. We are highly anticipating lively exchange events to be held in the near future.
