Lecture and Concert Held by Zalmen Mlotek, Artistic Director at The National Yiddish Theatre

On Wednesday, October 9th, Zalmen Mlotek, one of the most prominent American artistic directors at The National Yiddish Theatre in New York made a courtesy visit to TUFS and had an informal talk with TUFS President Hirotaka Tateishi. He gave a lecture titled “Music of Diaspora Now: Memory of Holocaust and Yiddish Culture” and played music which was written and used to be sung in Yiddish in ghettos and concentration camps.
This program was realized by the cooperation between the Scientific-Research-Aid project “Interdisciplinary Study of ‘Collective Memory’ on Creating Self-Portraits in the Modern World” represented by Prof. Minoru Iwasaki at TUFS and research projects at Osaka University and Matsuyama University. It was Mr. Mlotek’s first visit to Japan and his performances made a strong impression on many participants including students, researchers and the general audience.
