Professor Hayatsu Wins Shinmura Izuru Prize

published January 16, 2018

TUFS Professor Emiko Hayatsu (Director of the Institute of Japan Studies, Japanese Linguistics) has won the 2017 Shinmura Izuru Prize for her book 'Causative Sentences in Modern Japanese' (published by Hituzi Syobo). This prize is awarded to individuals or organizations whose research achievements have contributed significantly to linguistics, Japanese linguistics, and/or other related fields. Professor Hayatsu's book is an ambitious work that aims at capturing an overview of causative sentences in modern Japanese by consciously separating and exploring the natures of 'causative sentences' and 'causative verbs,' and by exploring the mutual relationships between them.

The Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday the 23rd of November (a public holiday), at the Goshonishi Kyoto Heian Hotel in the Kamigyo ward of Kyoto.
