This lecture introduces students to the way in which peace is understood. Peace is usually viewed negatively as the absence of conflict. Recently however it has been seen in a more positive way as a means to enable human development. Achieving peace is, therefore, much more demanding. This lecture compares understandings of peace from different cultural backgrounds. This perspective helps us to understand that peace is closely related to the practices of daily life. An integral part of the lecture is reference to concrete examples of these understanding of peace.
