Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for graduate study at TUFS:

(see the details on the Application pack)

MA Degree Programs
▸ Completed 16 years of schooling
▸ Received a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
▸ Otherwise recognized by TUFS to be academically eligible to apply

Students wishing to enter the Peace and Conflicts Studies program specifically, are expected to have a good undergraduate degree in a relevant field, and ideally some related professional experience.  International or cross-cultural exposure will also be highly assessed.  Through the application process, applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in and commitment to issues relevant to the field of Peace and Conflict Studies, and potential for future academic and professional success.  This includes evidence of the applicant’s motivation to work independently and capacity to design and carry out original research.

Since there are applicants from all over the world, the admission decisions will be based primarily on the submitted documents.   Applicants will be called in for an interview, which shall be held either in-person, or by Skype (or any other internet based telephone).  However, those applicants residing in Japan at the time of submitting the application are required to attend in an in-person interview held at TUFS campus in Tokyo, Japan.

Scholarship Information

Unfortunately, we do not have a direct scholarship program to fund the students.  Applicants may apply for scholarships through various sources.

1.  Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship – Embassy Recommendation –
Apply through the Japanese embassy in the applicant's home country. Application deadline and selection procedure are not the same for every embassy.  Please contact the Japanese embassy in your country for details.

2. Scholarships offered by private foundations in Japan

Once you are formally admitted, you will be able to apply for scholarships offered by private foundations in Japan.  See the details here:
http://www.jasso.go.jp/study_j/scholarships_e.html

Apart from such scholarship possibilities, TUFS have a tuition exemption program which students may apply for.  But please be reminded that not all students are able to get such exemption or scholarships.  It is highly recommended to secure enough funding before arriving in Japan.
