A Campus Card (student/other ID cards) is needed to enter the Library. It is also needed to borrow books, take them out temporarily, or to use a private study or group study room.
When you forgot your Campus Card, please call a person at the Service Counter from outside the gate.
* University students and personnel must show their student or other ID card when they establish their identity or use the University’s facilities. They must always carry their ID card with them when they come to the University.
The ID card is called the “Campus Card” because it has additional functions,
such as for using the Library.
Borrowers should first confirm whether a barcode sticker for the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Library or the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa is affixed to the books or other materials they wish to borrow.
- If such a barcode sticker is affixed, bring the books or materials and your
Campus Card to the Service Counter.
*Borrowing hour is until 15 min. before closing time
- If such a barcode is not affixed, complete a prescribed borrowing form for
each item (available at the writing stand), and bring it to the Service Counter together with
your Campus Card and the items you want to borrow.
*Borrowing hour is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
The Campus Card (student or other ID card) serves as a borrowing card for the
Library.
Materials with a “参考室(Reference Room)” or “禁帯出(For Reference Only)” sticker
affixed and magazines, cannot be borrowed. If you
wish to use these materials outside the Library, complete the procedures for
temporary borrowing at the Service Counter.
If you wish to borrow items from the Library temporarily for classroom reference or other purposes, complete the procedures for
temporary borrowing. Complete a blue Library reading form available at
the writing stand and bring it to the Service Counter together with your
Campus Card and the items you want to borrow.
-Magazines, encyclopedias, and other materials designated
“参考室(Reference Room)” or “禁帯出(For Reference Only)” can be borrowed if these
procedures are completed.
-Materials taken from the Library temporarily must be returned to the Service
Counter by 15 minutes prior to the closing time of the same day. (Do not put
them in the book return box.)
When you return items you borrowed, either return them to the
Service Counter or put them in the book return box in the Browsing Hall.
When the Library is closed, you can return items by using book
return box in the Entrance Hall.
If you are unable to bring them to the Service Counter for such reasons as
illness, return them by mail to Reference Service Section.
You will be suspended from lending and renewing when you fail to return materials by the deadline. You cannot borrow and renew any materials for the same period you have kept the materials overdue for a maximum of 2 months.

service, complete an application form and take it to the Service Counter.
Librarians provide applicants with information on such matters as which
libraries have materials they are looking for and what materials have been
published on a particular subject.
A letter of introduction is required to read or make copies of books and magazines in other university libraries.
Graduate students, research students, and University personnel can use a
library attached to a national university by showing their ID card there.
Libraries of faculties or departments in a university other than its central
library, however, may require a letter of introduction. Confirm terms of use
for libraries you wish to use through their website and other media. Using a
library at prefectural, municipal, or private universities requires a letter
of introduction.
Application forms for letters of introduction are available at the
writing stand in front of the Service Counter. If you need a letter of
introduction, complete an application form and take it to the Service
Counter. In principle, letters of introduction will be issued on the next
day the Library is open.
Based on mutual use agreements and other arrangements, TUFS students and
personnel can visit and use specified university libraries without a letter
of introduction. Detail is here.
