Specialized Interpreting Course

There has been a rapid transformation to a multilingual and multicultural society in Japan, with foreign residents accounting for more than two percent of the nation’s population. To create a society comfortable for foreigners to live in, we need to develop legal systems that can respond to this multilingualization and multiculturalization. In cooperation with Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies offers a “Specialized Interpreting Course” to train specialists who can facilitate communication between people with different languages and cultures in various legal activities, such as in court, during investigations, and with legal representation. After completion of the course, participants are expected to be active in various situations, not only in court, but during investigations, and consultations conducted by a lawyer.
